Romas Grenache
Wine
Clarendon Hills Romas Grenache is grown in the steepest section of its Blewitt Springs vineyard. The Romas patch sits 280 metres above sea level and seven kilometres from the Gulf St Vincent.
Its low yielding, dry grown vines were planted in 1920. They struggle to survive on the rocky shattered shale hillside, resulting in tiny yields of intensely flavoured grapes.
The grapes are handpicked over several passes to ensure optimal fruit ripeness. The partial whole berries and whole bunches are wild yeast fermented in open vats with varying maceration periods.
The wine is matured for 18 months in new and seasoned French oak. The final barrels are hand selected. It is bottled onsite without fining or filtration.
Purple crimson, Clarendon Hills Romas Grenache has an intricate, chalky structure brightened by its natural acidity and juicy tannins. Cellaring potential is 15 years.
